Lake Manyara National Park
Where Tree-Climbing Lions Roam and Flamingos Paint the Shoreline
Tucked beneath the cliffs of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most diverse and picturesque wildlife areas. Though relatively small in size, this compact gem offers a stunning variety of landscapes and an equally impressive range of wildlife experiences — from lush groundwater forests to acacia woodlands and the shimmering alkaline lake that gives the park its name.
Lake Manyara is famously home to the rare tree-climbing lions, often spotted lounging on branches in the mid-afternoon sun. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 400 species of birds, including vast flocks of pink flamingos, pelicans, storks, and cormorants that gather along the lakeshore in breathtaking numbers.
Best Time to Visit
Dry Season (June to October): Best for wildlife viewing and lion sightings.
Wet Season (November to May): Spectacular for birdlife and lush green scenery.

Lake Manyara Safari Experience
Lake Manyara is ideal for half-day or full-day game drives, making it a perfect stopover en route to Ngorongoro or Serengeti. The park’s dense forests and marshes create a unique safari atmosphere different from the wide-open plains of the Serengeti and allow for close-up encounters with elephants and hippos.
